Winter 2025 Recap

What a winter! Another season of our history is complete, and this page is a small celebration of the amazing community we enjoyed and the great things we accomplished. We've made so many new friends and broadened our horizons in so many ways. Words are not enough, but we'll say them anyway: thank you for being part of our BaseCamp family!

We hope you enjoy reading some of your parting messages to each other and looking through some of the photos you shared. Thanks again for all the smiles...and all the miles.

This program has given me more gains than I’ve ever found over the winter. Want to thank the community and coaches. It’s been amazing and I look forward to next winter.

- Chris Wengert

Thank you to Tim and Kathy and Greg and all the coaches. This is an amazing program and I look forward to doing it again next year. Thanks to all the supportive and helpful campers too. A great bunch of people.

- David Veloz

I want to say thank you to everyone in this group and coaches for the training this winter. Hope you all have a great season of rising and races. Hope to see some of you out there.

- Jason Rose

Winter BaseCamp Training was a blast and I hope to do it next winter. See you at Lauf Gravel Worlds!!!

- Brian Barrera

Big thank you to the base camp team. As a relatively new outdoor rider I found the coaching top notch and extremely valuable. Going to miss the group rides and the meetups. Nice job scaring the …..out of us in this ride  Tim! Thanks to all the coaches but really appreciated the expert coaching from Greg Waggoner, Brian Hammond, Lorri Lee Lown, and Liz Inglese in the challenges. See you all on the alumni page.

- Fred Giombolini

I have loved my first BaseCamp experience so much and am so grateful for the community here. Thank you to all the coaches and kind welcoming humans here who have made the BaseCamp experience what it is.
Please follow me on Strava & Zwift & stuff if anyone wants to, I’d love to follow back and keep up with everyone over the summer!

- Kaci Wall

Big thanks to the coaches for another great winter season. Loved all of the changes this year over last. Basecamp was especially meaningful in what turned out to be a longer, colder, darker New England winter than we’re accustomed to these days.

- Greg Bonette

Thank you Tim Cusick, Namrita Brooke, Tina Hart, and all the other coaches. Thank you to all the BaseCampers. Your enthusiasm was so motivating. BaseCamp Winter 2025 was just what I needed. Special thanks to Kathy Watts for encouraging me to give it a try. I'm so glad I did. I mastered Zwift with few issues. I was able to join 2 Challenges with success. I completed Alp d'Zwift for the first time. I made it through the TT with an IF of 1.05, over my FTP which I also improved in the last test by 5 watts. Most of all my name was drawn for the very last gift basket (way cool). I will miss the banter but I am going forward with so much more confidence. Have a great season. I will be back next year. Looking forward to it.

- Barb Lagana

Very grateful for this Basecamp program, all the awesome coaches and people here and especially grateful someone took the time to share Basecamp with me! Thank you all

- Gary Wenzl

I have deep gratitude for everyone showing up to make this community possible and for the coaches to have the vision to create and sustain this platform - it has without a doubt helped me grow as an athlete and person.  It’s a blessing to get to connect with so many inspiring people.

- Jacqui Parker

Stay healthy and blessed this summer. I will see some of you IRL at events. Rubber side down, shiny side up! I am signed up for BC 2026. I gave Kathy Watts my Visa gold card. I am a lifetime member. I have grown so much with BaseCamp, my 5th year coming up. I can't imagine a winter without it.

- Frank Giresi

As spring arrives to Durango, our 2025 Winter BaseCamp comes to an end. This was my second year at BaseCamp and I will be back in the fall for the 2026 session. This year BaseCamp went much more smoothly for me, and except for a brief left ankle tendonitis (which resolved), I consider this camp a huge success. My performance today was better than I expected. I was pleasantly surprised to notice that during the 20 minutes of climbing my normalized power was just 2 watts below my FTP and for the whole TT it was 7 watts.
Mallorca is next for me, and I will spend the next week working on my endurance and refreshing my riding outdoor technique. After that, I will be back to ride with my Seniors Outdoors buddies, and in getting ready for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic in my hometown of Durango. Coaches, you guys are awesome! Thank you for all your support. For all BaseCampers, you have a friend in Durango, and If you are ever around contact me. Happy spring and summer. I wish you happy rides and trails! Vlad and home coaching staff (Archie and Darcy).

- Vladimir Troche

Another FABULOUS basecamp In the books!!!  The program never ceases amaze me how much more I learn every year. Carrie Jackson's  mental health performance was incredible!  All the tools have helped me step up my game. More tools in the toolbox!  I have always let my head get in the way of improving. Thanks to each and every coach for all the knowledge and inspiration!  To the meet up peeps who organized weekly rides. We know we would have a harder time doing those long rides Inside. To Menachem Brodie for the great strength training program!!  To all the wonderful sponsors for sharing their awesome products and giving us discounts. And here's to the amazing community of basecampers!!! Have a successful summer and fall of events!  Hope to meet several of you on the explore events!! Thank You Thank you Thank you

- Sue Hageman

As a newbie to BaseCamp this past session, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I learned a great deal, I got stronger, and feel more ready for the outdoor season. The coaching was top notch! What surprised me most was the fun and levity throughout. Thanks for keeping the winter session so upbeat and engaging. Have a great spring/summer season everyone!

- Debbie Kirkhus

This was my fifth year of BaseCamp and it never disappoints. I hope to see some of you at Unbound! I’m hoping I can make it to Mallorca next year!

- Tonya Simpson

I want to thank everyone, coaches and athletes, for a wonderful winter of training, learning, and fun.  I look forward to seeing some of you out there!

- Lynn Botelho

BaseCamp means a lot to me, and I know that it’s where I belong each winter. Because of the program, the workouts, the nutrition. All of it. But mostly because of the people. The coaches and the other members make it special. And having met many of them in Mallorca, I still feel like I know them even better, and that I am part of something really great.

- Grayson Lloyd

I just wanted to thank everyone who made this an amazing experience. I loved the holistic approach--physical, mental, strength, nutrition--and was amazed at the amount of support and encouragement everyone offered. I made a decision to do everything on my calendar and I really feel like it paid off. The group rides were a lot of fun and tremendously motivating, so great to be part of such a community. Last, I just want to remark on how professional and thoughtful all of the responses were to questions and concerns people had throughout the 16 weeks. It stood out to me that you leveraged data along with your experience to provide feedback. Thank you for including me, teaching me and encouraging me. See some of you in Spain and I will continue on!

- Mary Hoffman

I had a wonderful time and am absolutely flying right now. Thanks to all the coaches and ZWIFT. Early sorry to Nathan Goates and Tim Cusick on the pain I will inflict on you this summer.

- Jon Marshall

Thank you coaches for an an amazing winter. Every year it just keeps getting better and better.  Den Scanlon and I look forward to what’s in store for next year.  A special shout out to Tim Cusick for your wise words. I always find a quote of yours that will power me through the season. This year it came in your last post. Also, a big thanks to Namrita Brooke for the last Thursday night workout. “Giving me permission” to dial back during the workout was a HUGE lesson for me. Perfection is not always the best for performance. Thanks to everyone in this community and we look forward to see you all at some of Explorer team events.

- Shannon Scanlon

Thanks Coaches and BC’rs for another great Basecamp.  Always learning, laughing, and living through everyone’s experiences.  Have an amazing season!

- Doug Rusho

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to you all. The training program has been instrumental in not only improving my fitness but also in deepening my understanding of why certain practices are crucial for enhancing my riding efficiency and strength. This is the 2nd time I participate in the program, and it always surprises me how many new knowledge I can pick up.
A special thanks goes to all the coaches for your excellent guidance during the Group Rides. Despite being able only to join a few due to the 12-hour time difference, each ride was immensely beneficial. The four events were especially transformative, preparing me both mentally and physically for future challenges. I'm also grateful to my fellow participants. Your questions and comments have been a rich source of learning and inspiration. Wishing everyone the very best in your endeavors. May you always ride strong, ride safe, and find joy in every moment. Until we meet again, take care.

- Huck Lee Beh

I'm so sad that it's over. Every morning the first thing I do is pull up my phone and check to see what Tim had to say or what was new with the group.  I'm going to miss y'all!

- Lori Githens

The past 16 weeks have been a great experience. Thank you to the coaches and my fellow campers for sharing your wealth of experience.

- Tom Gosnell

It's been a blast and learned so much in my second year of BC.  See some of you in Mallorca in April!  Have an awesome season!

- Carolyn Misick

It's been a great winter training program with you all. Many thanks to all coaches, and the community here. See you next season!

- Feyza O'Connell

I want to seriously tell you how much I appreciate what you have done for this precious learning community. I enjoyed the vivid conversation among members, 360-degree skills and knowledge provided by coaches, and support from members.
Winter BaseCamp brings deep, detailed learning opportunities and unparalleled food for thought every year. In addition, this year’s 50+ education was so essential for me. It encouraged me to constructively accept and further prepare for aging from the bottom of my heart. Again, thank you so much everybody. Hope you enjoy wonderful ride seasons throughout the year.

- Taeko Shibahara

One final giant thank you to all of our Coaches (Tim, Namrita, Tina, Jill, Jim, Liz, Lorri, and more!) and riders from this season. I knew when I stumbled upon the free BC rides on Zwift last year that I wanted to join for real this year. I could not have imagined how much I would learn and grow throughout these past 16 weeks. I've gotten stronger, continually pushing myself to new limits, made new routines worth sticking to, and, most importantly, I've become a part of this community and made so many new friends. The BaseCamp training and community are priceless. I can't wait to continue my journey this spring and summer leaning on what I've learned and seeing what everyone else is up to. I genuinely hope to ride with you all in real life sometime. If you find yourself in the Upstate of SC or Foothills of NC, let me know and I'd be happy to take you on a ride. PS...I SIGNED UP FOR MALLORCA 2026 TODAY!!!
